The new version of the Personal Branding Canvas is conceptually identical to the previous one, but with a completely new design.
The idea of changing its design came from the desire to differentiate it from the Personal Business Model Canvas, to make it immediately recognizable and identifiable, given that in some cases they are used side by side…
After all we are talking about branding, I thought it was appropriate to differentiate ourselves and to be consistent also in the appearance!
Even for this reason, since the first version we decided to use flat icons because… well, they are fashionable, aren’t they?
When I commissioned the graphical changes, I had in mind a clear concept: while using the Personal Branding Canvas you are developing a prototype. It is about learning model thinking: instead of expecting a finished project too soon, let’s go on the market and test the current design and learn something.
I wanted the look and feel to communicate this feeling of sketching, of design approach in order to leave that idea of “unfinished”, stimulate creativity, doubt and gestalt.
From strategy to graphic design
The designer Roberto Iadanza, has developed my input on most of the graphics and the Canvas of this website and did a wonderful job of interpreting what I wanted. Moreover, I explained to him the Branding Canvas of the Personal Branding Canvas, impossible not to be aligned, right?
Here are some questions I’ve asked him in order to explain how and why he made his choices:
Why did you choose that style for icons ?
The idea was to use a simple style, which gave the idea of a line sketched by hand. In this way the Canvas becomes more friendly.
Why that type of font ?
The first reason is because it goes well with the icons of the site and the Canvas, the second reason is because it is a Google Font and it can then be downloaded by everyone and be easily incorporated in the stylesheet of the site.
Why did you like the idea of giving the sense of “draft”?
Because it is able to make the Canvas more friendly and to give the idea of something being planned first by hand: like all the best projects, you start on paper first.
Was it difficult to give a graphical interpretation of the Personal Branding Canvas?
Luckily it was not complex, mainly due to the team synergy and the enormous clarity with which I was briefed. We immediately understood each other and I am very pleased with the result!
I love it in fact!
